Launch of the "I can vote" campaign in view of the European elections on 9 June 2024

The press conference was held at the Foyer européen in presence of the minister for Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees, Max Hahn, Vice-President of the European Parliament Marc Angel, Quaestor and MEP Isabel Wiseler-Lima and MEP Tilly Metz.

"In a Europe and a world in crisis, it is more important than ever to strengthen democracy, political participation and living together for all", stressed Minister Max Hahn during the press conference.

All non-Luxembourg residents of a European Union member state are entitled to take part in the European elections in Luxembourg. In order to take part, they have to register on the electoral roll via Guichet.lu or at the local administration in their place of residence until 15 April 2024 at 5 p.m.

Alternatively, non-Luxembourg residents of a European Union member state can vote in their country of origin: in this case, they are invited to contact the respective embassy or consulate.

Awareness-raising initiatives carried out by the Ministry of Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees and its partners include the following:

• Development of awareness-raising materials (posters, flyers, the dedicated website in five languages jepeuxvoter.lu).
• Sending a communication kit to municipalities, partners and, on request, to various companies, unions, and youth centers.
• Production of explanatory videos and testimonials, as well as ongoing awareness-raising campaigns on social networks.
• As part of the campaign, the Ministry and the Liaison Office of the European Parliament in Luxembourg take part in events with an information stand, and can make stand material available to communes, associations and other players interested in the subject.
• Public displays (bus shelters, parking lots, train stations, the tram) and multimedia campaign

In order to precisely follow the evolution of the registrations in the electoral rolls, the Ministry of Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees is working with the Centre des technologies de l'information de l'Etat (CTIE) to obtain statistics on the registrations broken down by certain individual characteristics and by municipality of residence. The current registration rate is 13.2 percent. After the 2019 European elections, it was 11.7 percent.

An update of these statistics is planned for mid-March as well as for the closing date for registrations on 15 April 2024.
