Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund
The 2021-2027 programming period of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) is established by Regulation (EU) No 2021/1147 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 7 July 2021.
Objectives
The Fund's general aim is to assist the efficient management of migratory flows and to implement, strengthen and develop the joint asylum, subsidiary protection and temporary protection policy, and the common immigration policy, while fully respecting the rights and principles enshrined in the European Union's Charter of fundamental rights.
The Fund shall contribute to the following common specific objectives:
- To strengthen and develop all aspects of the common asylum system, including its external dimension
- To support legal migration to Member States in accordance with their economic and social needs, such as labour market needs, while safeguarding the integrity of Member States' immigration systems, and to promote the effective integration of third-country nationals
- To enhance fair and effective return strategies in Member States which contribute to combating illegal immigration, with an emphasis on sustainability of return and effective readmission in the countries of origin and transit
- To enhance solidarity and responsibility sharing between Member States, in particular towards those most affected by migration and asylum flows, including through practical cooperation
Resources
In Luxembourg, the Ministry of Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees (MFSVA) is the managing authority for the implementation of the 2021-2027 Fund. The General Department of Immigration of the Ministry of Home Affairs is the intermediate body.
The National Reception Office (ONA) and the Division of Living Together are stakeholders in the implementation of the Fund, as members of the Steering Committee.
The 2021-2027 programming period of the AMIF has an overall budget of €27.9 million, including €23 million of EU funding.
Multiannual programme
The European Commission adopted the multiannual programme (in French) proposed by Luxembourg on 18 March 2015.
