659 participants in the 2025 Orientation Day – A step forward towards an inclusive society!
On Saturday, 20 September 2025, the Biergerpakt Orientation Day brought together 659 participants at the European Convention Center (ECCL), marking another step towards a more united, inclusive, and connected Luxembourg. This dynamic event enabled members to actively engage in constructive discussions, participatory workshops, and exchanges aimed at strengthening social cohesion and intercultural living together among residents and cross-border workers of all backgrounds in Luxembourg.
The Biergerpakt: A voluntary commitment to an inclusive society
The Biergerpakt is a voluntary framework designed to encourage residents—whether Luxembourgish or foreign nationals—as well as cross-border workers active in Luxembourg, to participate actively in community life and in strengthening social bonds. This pact represents a moral commitment by individuals to uphold and promote the values of solidarity, equal opportunity, and cultural openness, particularly in a context where growing diversity enriches Luxembourg's social landscape.
It is part of a broader approach to living together that aims to build bridges between different communities and support newcomers in their journey. Since its creation, the Biergerpakt has fostered a true community of engaged citizens, each contributing to the building of a more welcoming and united society.
A solidary and inclusive approach
The Minister for Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception, Max Hahn, recently emphasized that "The Biergerpakt is a central pillar of intercultural living together in Luxembourg. It embodies civic engagement in the service of a more inclusive and supportive society. This pact shows that living together is not only a right but also a shared responsibility in building a common future.”
Interactive workshops at the heart of orientation day
The Orientation Day featured a range of interactive workshops allowing participants to dive into key topics for the future of Luxembourgish society. The workshops offered participants the opportunity to:
- Discover the levers of social entrepreneurship and how to support citizen initiatives.
- Explore volunteering opportunities and their key role in building local solidarity.
- Discuss ways to combat discrimination and promote a more inclusive and respectful environment.
- Understand the importance of political participation in fostering active and responsible citizenship.
- Learn how to take action for environmental preservation and make Luxembourg a model of sustainability.
These workshops not only helped participants acquire new skills but also strengthened connections between Luxembourg's diverse communities by fostering dialogue and mutual understanding.
Additionally, at over 50 information booths, representatives from various ministries, public administrations, and associations were on hand to help participants learn more about administrative procedures, national institutions, and community life in Luxembourg.
A moment of sharing at the "Welcome Café"
The Welcome Café provided a relaxed space where participants could freely exchange ideas on everyday topics in Luxembourg, such as neighborhood life, sense of belonging, and cultural sharing. This friendly gathering helped reinforce bonds between residents and cross-border workers and paved the way for meaningful intercultural dialogue.
Looking ahead
With growing citizen participation in the Biergerpakt, Luxembourg is moving toward an increasingly united and supportive society. In 2025, the Ministry of Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception will continue to highlight and support the many projects and initiatives planned for the coming months to further encourage civic engagement, diversity, and public participation.
